The Retirement Glidepath process

From speaking to our clients over the years, our Advisors have become very aware of how daunting retirement can be.

We have put together a 'Retirement Glidepath' for clients which can help alleviate some of the financial stresses that you might face and allow you to enjoy your new found freedom.

Below is an outline of the key steps involved in this Glidepath process.
These usually take place over three meetings with a Financial Advisor; however it is up to each client to decide which and how many of these meetings they would like to participate in.

  • Revenue have rules about what you might or might not be able to take tax-free from your AVC fund at retirement and what you’re allowed to do with the balance. At this meeting we will look at the scope for your particular case
  • Revenue also have rules around what you are allowed to contribute before retirement, this will have a bearing on the previous point. Both areas are looked at in conjunction with a breakdown of your Main Scheme benefits.

  •  As you retire, you will lose benefits like your Death in Service lump sum payment. However, many clients like to keep some cover for a time in their life when they are definitely going to use it. Furthermore, many retiring Public Sector workers are vulnerable themselves, should their spouse pass away. Many more are concerned that their children may have a potential Inheritance Tax liability. We can discuss your concerns in these areas and put adequate policies in place where required

  • Your Financial Advisor will guide you through the AVC claim process, to ensure your benefits are paid out in an efficient and timely manner
  • After you retire, your assets have usually flipped, that is your deposits have increased and your income decreased dramatically. This may require management and structure on your part. We look at a plan to cover your short, medium and long term needs, after retirement, to insure the correct amount of funds are held in the correct vehicle for each phase, according to your needs.
